I should come clean… I do not know Spanish… In fact, I have only ever done poorly in two classes in my life… Spanish and Japanese… In college it was acting… but high school it was any foreign language they made me take… My brain has an inability to understand anything other than English… and I barely have a grasp on that…

So… what I wrote?… I do not remember… I was watching the movie The Serpent and The Rainbow… when I wrote these thoughts… Sitting around bored and thought to myself why not try something different?… Well… it was fun… but everything fun comes with consequences…

Thanks to the amount of data collected through our Wi-Fi and phones and things that I will admit I don’t completely understand… Using Google translate to convert my words to Spanish led to my Instagram feed being taken over for weeks with Spanish reels… Which is pretty stupid given the fact that I clearly don’t know Spanish if I have to convert words into it…

But social media apparently doesn’t care… For weeks I got ADs in Spanish… Reels… and who knows what else… So… if you don’t understand my poorly translated words… Don’t seek out what I said… and if you are wondering why I don’t do it for you… out of the kindness of my heart?… For weeks… I shit you not… weeks… Though I saw some funny stuff I didn’t understand completely… was not worth it…

In fact, it only made me more upset that I don’t know Spanish… because some of the reels seemed really funny and I felt so left out… And if you are thinking well swipe before you know… That is how they get you with reels… Too many of them started off with something physically funny… for long enough to convince the algorithm that I was into them…

Which I was… until they started explaining… or saying something in Spanish that I didn’t understand… Then I was lost… but I wanted to understand… My heart wanted to understand… and before you know it, I’ve watched the reel way too many times trying to figure out what was so funny or going on… to blame the algorithm for showing me more…

Weeks… day after day… of me swiping away from anyone who might seem like they could… would… or do speak Spanish… Fun fact that could be anyone… anyone but me… On the positive side… I did spend less time on social media… so it isn’t all bad… Hope all is well…
